Chaplain
Hospital Services
Chaplains and volunteers from a variety of religious traditions are available
to offer pastoral support and prayer to patients and families. If you prefer, we
will assist you in contacting representatives of your own religious tradition. Chaplains
are present at The Nebraska Medical Center Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m.
to 4:30 p.m. and on Tuesday, Friday and Sunday nights from 7:30 p.m. to 8:00 a.m.
When not on campus, a chaplain is available on-call and can be reached through the
hospital operator.
University Hospital
Devotional materials are available in the surgery and AICU waiting rooms and in
the meditation room, located in room 6414 (Level 6 of the hospital, to the right
of the main elevators as you exit them). Mass is offered on Tuesday at 10:00 a.m.
in the meditation room.
Clarkson Hospital
St. Luke's Chapel is located on Level 1, main corridor, and is open 24 hours a day.
Persons of all religious faiths are welcome to use it for prayer and meditation.
Services are televised on channel 2 and religious music is played at other times.
The Pastoral Care office is located on Level 1, office #1872. The telephone number

Patient Relations
If you have questions or concerns about your stay, The Nebraska Medical Center Patient
Relations Services will help you. We encourage you to share your concerns directly
with supervisors or managers of the particular area you have concern with. You may
also contact the Patient Relations Office directly. If, at any time, you believe
that any of the rights afforded to patients have not been fulfilled, contact the
Patient Relations Office at extension 9-8158. Sharing a concern will not affect
your access to care now or in the future.
Social Work
Illness can cause a major change in your life and the lives of your family. The
hospital social workers are trained to help you and your family through supportive
counseling to adjust to the changes, which may include emotional, physical, social
or financial difficulties. The social workers are also available to assist you in
making plans for after your discharge from the hospital. They may help you locate
services you have never needed before and don't know where to find.
Other ways they may help you include:
- Setting up nursing visits and medical equipment in the home
- Ordering meals to be delivered to the home
- Placement in a nursing facility
- Finding housing, meals or transportation while you or a loved one are being treated
here
- Locating agencies which provide financial assistance
- Help in preparing an advance directive
Social work services are available to all The Nebraska Medical Center patients and
families; there is no charge for a consultation. If you would like to talk with
a social worker, ask your nurse to call (402) 559-4420 at The Nebraska Medical Center
University or (402) 552-3146 at The Nebraska Medical Center Clarkson.
Volunteer Services
The Nebraska Medical Center has a diverse group of individuals who generously share
their time and talents with you as hospital volunteers.
The Nebraska Medical Center volunteers can be identified by their red colored jackets
or polo and volunteer nametags.
